Squier 40th Anniversary Collection: Our Top Picks
If by now, you’ve still not seen Squier’s 40th Anniversary Collection, where have you been?! There is a whole host of new guitars to browse; here I will pick out some of our favourites to get the ball rolling.
Fender have ‘blinged’ out the Gold Edition range with features such as gold anodised aluminium scratchplates, bound necks, block inlays and gold hardware.
For those of you who prefer a little less sparkle, there is also the Vintage Edition variants that are slightly more subtle but no less sweet!
Here are some of our favourites:
Squier has a history of making super playable Jazzmasters and this one is no exception. The new 40th Anniversary Edition will appeal to those who loved the aesthetic of the J-Mascis signature, whilst impressing others with attention to detail. The gold hardware and the Olympic White finish is arguably the prettiest combination in the range and we predict this one being a real favourite. However, if the Olympic White is not for you, Squier offer the guitar in Lake Placid Blue.
Details such as the 70’s headstock and vintage tuning pegs give the guitar a very stylish feel and the block inlays are a nice touch that you do not usually get on Squier guitars. The alnico 5 magnet pickups supply the familiar glassy Jazzmaster tone and like all of the guitars in this range, a comfortable “C”-shaped neck profile allows the player to feel at home immediately.
Unlike the Jazzmaster, Squier are offering the Stratocaster in 3 different colour combinations in the Gold Edition. Lake Placid Blue, Sienna Sunburst, and our favourite, Ruby Red. All of the Stratocasters in this range feature a Nyatoh body with a bound Indian Laurel fretboard. Squier has decided to use Bone for the nut material which will please those traditionalists out there and hopefully add a little resonance and durability to the guitar.
The Jazz Bass has also undergone a Gold Edition transformation. Available in 2 different colours, Ruby Red and Olympic White, the Jazz bass sports a lot of similar features to the guitars. It is worth mentioning that there is a unique 40th Anniversary Neck Plate on the back of all the guitars and basses in this collection, which is a nice touch.
The Jazz Bass comes equipped with Fender Designed Alnico 5 Single-Coil pickups. Vintage-Style tuning pegs and 20 Narrow Tall frets give you the much-loved tone and feel of the famous original.
