What’s so special about a 12-string guitar?

Because a 12-string guitar has double the strings – pitched octaves apart from a normal 6-string – it gives a natural chorus effect which gives a lush, grand texture to the sound. While not a ‘go-to’ piece of kit for most players, it can certainly add that special ‘something’ to a song and is invaluable for adding depth to recordings in the studio.

Famous songs in which a 12-string guitar is used include Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’, The Eagles’ ‘Hotel California’, and The Beatles’ ‘Ticket To Ride’, amongst many others.
